The Louvre Museum in Paris is set to undergo a significant renovation, as announced by French President Emmanuel Macron. A key feature of this project is the creation of a dedicated room for Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, aiming to enhance the viewing experience and alleviate overcrowding.
The renovation plan includes constructing a new entrance near the Seine River, scheduled for completion by 2031. Funding for the project, estimated to cost up to €800 million, will come from ticket sales, patronage, and licensing fees from the Louvre’s Abu Dhabi branch. Notably, entry fees for non-European Union visitors will increase starting January 2026.
This initiative addresses concerns about the museum’s current infrastructure, which was originally designed for 4 million visitors but now accommodates over 9 million annually. The dedicated space for the Mona Lisa will require a separate access pass, allowing for a more organized and comfortable viewing environment.
