San Diego, California – A string of burglaries early Saturday morning has shaken up three neighboring restaurants in Scripps Ranch, San Diego. Fay’s Diner, Isabella’s Mexican Restaurant, and Pizza on the Ranch all sustained extensive damage as a result of the break-ins.
Surveillance footage from the incidents shows a suspect using an object, possibly a crowbar, to break through the glass doors and gain access to the businesses. Once inside, the burglar is seen prying open registers and stealing cash before leaving the premises.
Josh Anderson, owner of Fay’s Diner, described the aftermath of the break-in as “like a horror movie.” He walked up to the restaurant to find the front door completely shattered, glass scattered everywhere. Anderson, who named the diner after his mother, shared the emotional toll the break-in has had on his business.
“Even $500 or $1,000—it’s devastating. That’s my groceries for the week,” Anderson said. “We operate on such small margins in this industry. That money matters.”
Despite the damage, Anderson is determined to move forward and remain optimistic. “I just hope this becomes a story of overcoming adversity, that something terrible happened but something great will come from it,” he added.
While the San Diego Police Department has not responded to inquiries from NBC 7 at the time of publication, they are investigating the break-ins. Anyone with information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact SDPD or Crime Stoppers.
