San Diego, California – A baby great horned owl, found on the ground during last week’s powerful storm, was safely returned to its nest in Bay Park after being rescued by a compassionate local resident.
The owl, known as a nestling, was discovered by a community member who found the young bird on the ground in the rain. The concerned citizen quickly brought the owl to the San Diego Humane Society’s Bahde Wildlife Center on Wednesday for help. After an exam, veterinarians confirmed that the owl was unharmed.
The decision was made to return the owl to its family to give it the best chance at survival in the wild. A team from the Humane Society located the owl’s nest in a tree in Bay Park, and the baby owl was successfully renested, ensuring it would grow up alongside its family.
This marks the San Diego Humane Society’s first renesting of the season, a process that is crucial for the well-being of many wild birds, especially during stormy weather.
For those who find injured or sick wildlife, the San Diego Humane Society encourages reaching out through their website for guidance on the proper steps to take.
It’s a reminder that small acts of kindness, like rescuing a vulnerable animal, can have a big impact on the future of wildlife in our communities.
