LOS ANGELES, CA – Advance Auto Parts will shut down all remaining locations in California by mid-March as part of a massive restructuring effort, the company confirmed.
The closures, initially announced in a federal WARN notice in November, will eliminate 137 stores statewide and result in more than 1,600 job losses. Store closures began in early February and are part of a broader plan to shutter over 725 locations nationwide.
The move comes as Advance Auto Parts struggles with declining demand, with fewer drivers opting to repair their vehicles. The company reported an operating loss of $820 million in the fourth quarter.
“During 2024, we initiated transformative actions to reposition Advance for long-term success and value creation,” said company president and CEO Shane O’Kelly in a statement.
Beyond store closures, the company plans to consolidate its distribution network, reducing it to 12 large facilities by the end of 2026. Additionally, Advance Auto Parts intends to open 60 market hub locations by mid-2027 in an effort to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
