
In a stunning start to their Major League Soccer journey, San Diego FC started their season off with a bang by defeating the defending MLS Cup champions, LA Galaxy, 2-0 in their inaugural match at Dignity Health Sports Park.
Thanks to the large, passionate crowd, the match was hop from the jump., Fans of the Galaxy, who are used to seeing their team dominate, had their minds boggled by the newcomers of San Diego FC. The breakthrough for San Diego came at minute 52 when Anders Dreyer scored the franchise’s first-ever field goal. Set up by “Chucky” Lozano, the goal shows just how hot San Diego is on the field.
Once in the lead, San Diego FC solidified their defense, with goalkeeper CJ dos Santos making a standout save on a point-blank shot that could have leveled the score.
Towards the end of the game, Dreyer scored again in stoppage time, chipping the ball from the crossbar into the net, putting San Diego two points ahead of the Galaxy.
With this remarkable triumph, the team looks forward to their home opener on March 1, when they will welcome St. Louis to Snapdragon Stadium.
