San Diego Launches Pop-Up Passport Services to Help Residents Obtain Travel Documents

If you’ve been delaying renewing your passport or getting one for the first time, now is the moment to take action. San Diego’s Office of the City Clerk is hosting a series of pop-up events at local libraries and senior centers aimed at increasing access to essential travel documents for residents.

These events will offer convenient passport services, including the ability to submit applications in person and get passport photos taken. A notable pop-up event is scheduled for Friday, February 21, 2025, at the San Ysidro Senior Center, located at 125 E Park Ave. in San Diego. Although all appointments are currently filled, City Clerk Diana Fuentes encourages walk-ins between 10 a.m. and noon for individuals with the necessary documents.

In addition to the February event, three more pop-up dates are planned for spring. Here’s the schedule:

– **March 7, 2025**: Linda Vista Library
**Time**: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
**Address**: 2160 Ulric St., San Diego, CA
Appointments available online, one per family.

– **March 14, 2025**: San Ysidro Library
**Time**: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
**Address**: 4235 Beyer Blvd., San Diego, CA
Appointments available online, one per family.

– **April 4, 2025**: Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Knox Library
**Time**: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
**Address**: 215 W. Washington St., San Diego, CA
Appointments will be available starting March 4 at 10 a.m. Residents can sign up for the City Clerk’s interest list to receive notifications about booking.

For those looking to apply for a passport, the following conditions require an in-person application using Form DS-11:
– First-time U.S. passport applicants.
– Individuals under 16 years old.
– Those whose previous passports were issued when they were under 16.
– People whose passports have been lost, stolen, or damaged.
– Passports issued more than 15 years ago.

To apply, individuals must:
1. Fill out Form DS-11.
2. Provide evidence of U.S. citizenship.
3. Present identification.
4. Determine any special circumstances.
5. Provide a passport photo.
6. Calculate fees and make a payment.
7. Submit the completed application.

These pop-up events are designed to streamline the application process, so it’s essential to bring all required documentation. For those needing quicker assistance, the Department of State has also begun accepting passport renewal applications online. More information can be found at Travel.State.Gov.
