Infielder Ha-Seong Kim has agreed to a two-year, $29 million contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, which includes an opt-out clause after the 2025 Major League Baseball season.
Kim, who spent the past four seasons with the San Diego Padres, became a fan favorite and earned a Gold Glove at shortstop in 2023. He underwent shoulder surgery last season and is anticipated to make his debut with the Rays in May. The contract will pay him $13 million for the upcoming season.
This offseason, the Padres have seen several key players depart, including Kyle Higashioka, Jurickson Profar, Tanner Scott, David Peralta, Donovan Solano, and Martin Perez. These players were instrumental in the team’s 93-win regular season in 2024, which concluded with a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Divisional Series.
