Officers and SWAT respond Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, to the Blackburn Terrace apartments at the intersection of 30th Street and Baltimore Avenue on the northeast side of Indianapolis. 36-year-old suspect Lamon Moore, facing a felony gun charge, was apparently left unattended inside the Criminal Justice Center as the jury deliberated and Moore walked out of the building and into a car outside, according to Fox59.
Santee, California – A deadly deputy-involved shooting in the San Diego suburb of Santee has sparked an investigation following a prolonged standoff on Sunday that drew a significant law enforcement response and ended in gunfire. The incident began just before noon on Willowgrove Avenue after San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene for reports of a man making violent threats with a firearm.
According to the San Diego Police Department, which is leading the investigation under a countywide memorandum of understanding, the situation escalated quickly. Deputies first located victims who said the man had threatened them with a handgun. The suspect then moved to a nearby residence just four doors down, where he barricaded himself inside. Officials attempted to make contact by phone, but their calls went unanswered. A SWAT team and crisis negotiation unit were dispatched to the scene as the standoff dragged into the evening.
Authorities said the situation took a turn when they heard a gunshot from inside the house. A drone confirmed the man was still inside, prompting deputies to deploy gas in an attempt to force him out. As the suspect emerged, police say he opened fire on the deputies, who returned fire. The man was killed during the exchange. His identity has not been released as officials work to notify his next of kin.
No deputies or civilians were injured during the shootout, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Road closures remained in effect late Sunday night around Willowgrove Avenue and Carlton Hills Boulevard as investigators worked the scene.
In accordance with the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding signed by all local law enforcement agencies in San Diego County, outside agencies are responsible for investigating each other’s shootings to ensure independence and transparency. In this case, the San Diego Police Department is handling the investigation into the actions of the Sheriff’s deputies. If both agencies are involved in a shooting, a third agency, such as the Chula Vista Police Department, would assume investigative responsibility.
Once SDPD completes its review, the findings will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Special Operations Division, which will determine whether any laws were violated. That process can take several months. If the DA concludes the deputies acted lawfully, a public letter with a case summary and supporting evidence will be posted on the department’s website.
For now, a quiet residential block in Santee remains the site of an active investigation, as officials work to piece together the events that led to Sunday’s deadly confrontation.
