Los Angeles, California – A Compton man accused of hurling concrete blocks at federal officers during a June 7 standoff in Paramount has been arrested after fleeing to Mexico, according to authorities.
Elpidio Reyna, 39, was taken into custody by Mexican authorities in Sinaloa and surrendered to the FBI at the San Ysidro Port of Entry on Wednesday. He was later transferred to Los Angeles, where he is expected to face federal charges stemming from an alleged assault during a chaotic confrontation between law enforcement and civilians outside a Home Depot.
The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m., when agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Marshals Service conducted a raid near the home improvement store. In video footage reviewed by The Los Angeles Times, individuals were seen throwing objects—including concrete blocks—at moving federal vehicles.
According to a criminal complaint, Reyna was identified as the person wearing a “Zacatecas” jersey and a yellow construction helmet in multiple videos, including one posted to his personal TikTok account. One of the blocks allegedly thrown by Reyna damaged the exterior of a federal vehicle and injured an agent inside, who sustained a hand laceration.
Federal investigators obtained emergency access to Reyna’s TikTok data, which led them to his Compton address. But by then, Reyna had already fled the country. On June 11, the Department of Homeland Security issued a $50,000 reward for information leading to his capture. His photograph and description were distributed widely in both the United States and Mexico, including in a post from the official White House Instagram account.
Reyna’s arrest comes after weeks of public outreach by federal officials and pressure from top law enforcement agencies. “To anyone who thinks they can attack federal officers and hide behind a mask or helmet, Reyna’s arrest today proves we can find and charge anyone who violates federal law,” said U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The FBI shared video footage showing Reyna in handcuffs as he was searched and placed into a vehicle. FBI Director Kash Patel added in a separate post that the bureau “will never tolerate violence against those who serve and protect this country” and said Reyna “will face justice.”
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thi Ho and Frances Lewis. Reyna is expected to be formally arraigned in the coming days.
