San Diego, California – A San Diego woman is behind bars following her arrest in connection with two non-fatal stabbings that occurred in Ocean Beach last month, authorities said Thursday.
Jana Nicole Halaska, 29, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in Hillcrest on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The charges stem from an early morning incident on April 13, when officers responded to reports of a stabbing near the intersection of Bacon Street and Newport Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered two men, ages 29 and 36, suffering from stab wounds. Both victims were hospitalized and are expected to survive, said SDPD Detective Sgt. Paul Tom.
Investigators believe the stabbings occurred after one of the victims became involved in a confrontation with a fourth, unidentified individual in the commercial area near the Ocean Beach Pier. Halaska, who was not previously known to either victim, allegedly attacked both men during the altercation.
In addition to the assault and attempted murder charges, Halaska is also expected to face charges related to the illegal possession of a controlled substance.
She is currently being held without bail at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee. Her arraignment is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the attacks. The investigation is ongoing.
