San Diego, California – A 22-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with a violent road rage incident in San Diego’s Ridge/Webster neighborhood that left a 56-year-old motorist hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, police said.
The stabbing occurred just after 12:40 p.m. near the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Federal Boulevard. According to San Diego Police Officer Jose Perales, the suspect and the victim were both driving southbound on Euclid Avenue when they became embroiled in an argument for reasons that remain unclear.
As tensions escalated, the suspect reportedly exited his vehicle and began vandalizing the victim’s car. In response, the victim stepped out of his vehicle armed with a 6-inch knife, leading to a physical altercation between the two men.
During the struggle, the suspect managed to disarm the older man and then stabbed him approximately 10 times, according to police. The suspect fled the scene but was located and taken into custody by officers a short time later near Euclid Avenue and Groveland Street. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Authorities have not released his name or further details about his current status.
Detectives from the San Diego Police Department’s Southeastern Division are leading the investigation. Officials say the motive behind the initial dispute is still under investigation.
“This was an incredibly violent incident that appears to have escalated very quickly,” Officer Perales said. “We are urging anyone who may have witnessed the confrontation or has additional information to come forward.”
Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to call SDPD’s Southeastern Division at 619-527-3500 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 888-580-8477.
The suspect’s identity has not yet been released, and it is not yet known whether he will face additional charges beyond attempted murder.
