Cathedral City, Calif. — A 40-year-old man was arrested Saturday after allegedly making a bomb threat in the vicinity of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, according to local authorities.
Davis Darvish, of Santa Monica, California, reportedly approached security personnel at the Agua Caliente Casino in Cathedral City and claimed he would be responsible for a bombing at the nearby Coachella music festival, police said.
Cathedral City Police responded to the threat shortly before 11 a.m. and were able to quickly identify the Tesla Darvish was driving. The vehicle information was shared with law enforcement personnel assigned to the Coachella festival, which is currently underway and draws tens of thousands of attendees to the Empire Polo Club—approximately 17 miles from the casino.
Using FLOCK ALPR (automated license plate recognition) technology, officers tracked Darvish’s movements throughout the Coachella Valley. Around 12:11 p.m., Palm Springs police located his vehicle in the city of Palm Springs. Darvish was detained without incident, and Cathedral City detectives assumed control of the investigation at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that no weapons, explosives, or bomb-making materials were found on Darvish or in his vehicle.
Darvish is currently being held at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on $1 million bail. The investigation remains ongoing.
Coachella organizers have not yet released a statement regarding the incident, and the festival continues as scheduled.
