Riverside, California – A shocking case of road rage was captured on a motorcyclist’s helmet camera in Riverside, showing the moment he was knocked off his bike and dragged down the street by an enraged driver.
The victim, who wished to remain anonymous, described the harrowing experience, which unfolded Tuesday afternoon near La Sierra and the 91 Freeway. What began as a minor traffic dispute quickly escalated into a life-threatening attack.
According to the motorcyclist, the altercation started when the driver of a black Nissan abruptly cut him off at an intersection. Frustrated, the rider filtered to the front of the intersection and shook his head at the driver. This gesture seemed to enrage the Nissan’s driver, later identified as 32-year-old Gary Delandro.
“So I get off the bike and say, ‘What’s going on? What’s your issue?’” the rider recounted. “And he says, ‘Why are you shaking your head at me?’ I told him, ‘It’s because you cut over as I was coming up.’” The conversation grew tense before the two went their separate ways—or so the motorcyclist thought.
Moments later, at another stoplight, Delandro allegedly pursued the rider. “I look back, just in time to see the front end of his car squeezing between both cars. He rear-ends me, knocks me off the bike, and then floors it over me,” the victim recalled.
As the driver accelerated, the motorcyclist was dragged along the pavement. “I felt like he was stepping on the gas. I’m not sure how fast he was going. When we finally stopped, I got up and ran to the sidewalk, and he fled the scene,” he said.
Riverside police later confirmed that Delandro turned himself in and now faces attempted murder charges, with bail set at $1 million.
The motorcyclist suffered moderate injuries, including burns on his back and deep wounds requiring staples below his knee. His protective gear—his jacket and backpack—was shredded in the incident.
Reflecting on the attack, he emphasized the risks posed by aggressive drivers. “People like that don’t care about anyone else. He sure as hell didn’t care about me or the people he had to cut through,” he said.
While California law permits lane-splitting for motorcyclists as a safety measure, the victim stressed that disagreements over road behavior should never escalate to violence. “At the end of the day, it shouldn’t warrant trying to kill somebody.”
Stay safe out there folks.
