San Bernardino County, California – A 24-year-old woman from Loma Linda is in custody, accused of attempted murder following a violent road rage incident on the 10 Freeway, thanks to the swift action of law enforcement and the use of automated license plate readers (ALPRs), the California Highway Patrol (CHP) announced.
Angeline Marie Gable was arrested after allegedly firing shots at another motorist during a confrontation on the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway, east of Riverside Avenue, at approximately 8:15 a.m. on March 24th. According to a CHP news release, the incident stemmed from a lane change that angered Gable, who was driving a gray Nissan Rogue. She then pulled alongside the victim, a male driver in a black 2024 Honda Civic, and fired multiple shots.
A witness to the brazen act of roadway violence immediately contacted 911, providing crucial information to responding CHP officers. Upon arrival, officers located the victim’s vehicle and confirmed the presence of bullet holes.
The investigation quickly escalated as the CHP’s Office of Criminal Investigations’ Emergency Notification and Tactical Alert Center in Sacramento provided real-time support. Utilizing advanced technology, they discovered that a Flock Safety camera, part of an ALPR system, had captured an image of Gable’s vehicle.
Flock Safety cameras, widely employed by law enforcement across California and the nation, provide a database of vehicle information including color, make, model, and even identifying features like decals. This technology proved instrumental in tracking Gable’s vehicle.
Based on the information gleaned from the Flock system, officers with the Fontana Police Department located the suspect vehicle shortly after 5 p.m. the same day. They conducted an enforcement stop, detaining Gable and another adult female passenger. CHP officers then took both women into custody for questioning, while the Nissan Rogue was impounded as evidence.
A subsequent vehicle inventory by detectives revealed a loaded firearm matching the description provided by the witness.
“Deliberate acts of violence such as these will not be tolerated,” stated CHP Captain Lance Berns in the release.
Gable was booked into the San Bernardino County Detention Center on multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the unidentified female passenger, including whether she was present during the road rage incident or if she faces any charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
