CHULA VISTA, CA – Drivers in Chula Vista are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the individuals responsible for vandalizing over a dozen vehicles. Victims report their cars were scratched with distinct markings, including “X”s and stars.
Adriana Garcia, one of the affected residents, discovered two “X”s scratched into the back of her truck. “Well, I feel upset because we don’t bother anyone, for them to come and do that kind of thing,” Garcia expressed.
Lincey Rosales, another victim, found an “X” scratched onto the driver’s door of her Tesla. After being alerted by a neighbor, she filed a police report. “The detective told me that there are 14 cases,” Rosales stated. Garcia also noted seeing other vehicles marked with stars and the number “22.”
Despite having vehicle cameras, Rosales’ Tesla did not capture the vandalism. “One struggles a lot to get ahold of one’s things, so it is very expensive to fix a car, whether it is a Tesla or any other car, it hurts because it is something that costs you to have,” she said.
The vandalism has resulted in unexpected financial burdens for the victims. Rosales estimated that repairs in Mexico would cost her $500.
The Chula Vista Police Department is actively investigating the series of vandalism incidents, but no arrests have been made.
“Let the authorities do something, if they don’t want to come looking for the [person] responsible; [let them] put cameras, put something,” Garcia urged.
“I am doing this because I do not want it to happen to another person. With that, I would be happy if they caught the person who did it and he did not do it again,” Rosales concluded.
Anyone with information, videos, or images that could assist the investigation is asked to contact the Chula Vista Police Department at (619) 691-5151 or the Crime Stoppers unit at (888) 580-8477.
