INGLEWOOD, CA – At least eight people were injured Saturday afternoon when a customer intentionally drove a vehicle into a CarMax store in Inglewood, California, according to the Inglewood Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:03 p.m. at the CarMax located in the 8600 block of S. La Cienega Boulevard. Police say the incident is being investigated as an intentional act, possibly stemming from a “business dispute.”
Witness video circulating on social media shows a silver Subaru backing into the store through a doorway, then driving through the building and exiting via another doorway.
Eight people sustained injuries, including two who were critically injured and transported to local hospitals by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
CarMax confirmed the suspect was a customer who had his vehicle appraised. The company stated that two employees and several customers were injured. The employees sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received hospital treatment. Injured customers were also hospitalized.
“The safety of our associates, community and customers is our top priority,” CarMax said in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by this event and our hearts go out to everyone impacted.”
CarMax has closed the Inglewood store indefinitely and is cooperating with authorities in the investigation.
The suspect left the scene after the incident and later turned himself in to the Los Angeles Police Department at a police academy on Manchester Avenue. He was arrested and is currently held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility.
The suspect faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon.
