SAN DIEGO, CA – Authorities have identified a Los Angeles County resident who was killed in a shooting earlier this week at a Mission Valley hotel, which also left another man wounded.
Damian Martinez, 19, of El Monte, California, was found dead in a hallway of the Handlery Hotel in the 900 block of Hotel Circle North around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, according to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD).
A second victim, a 23-year-old man, was discovered outside the hotel’s lobby with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. His identity has not been released.
SDPD Lt. Lou Maggi stated that witnesses reported seeing the suspected shooter enter a dark-colored truck after the incident. Officers quickly located the vehicle in the hotel parking lot, where they found the suspect inside.
The suspect, 29-year-old Kevin Casey Larin of Northridge, California, surrendered without resistance and was taken into custody. He was booked into San Diego Central Jail on charges of murder and attempted murder.
Investigators revealed that all three men worked together and were in San Diego for work, though authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting.
The investigation remains ongoing.
