SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – Inclement weather and dangerous road conditions have forced the closure of two school districts in San Diego County’s backcountry on Friday, March 7, 2025.
The San Diego County Office of Education announced that Mountain Empire Unified School District and Spencer Valley School District will remain closed due to ongoing winter weather.
These closures come as a winter weather advisory remains in effect for the region’s mountain areas, including Julian and Pine Valley. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, warns of difficult travel conditions, potential tree damage from strong winds, and possible snow accumulations of up to two inches.
“The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts,” officials with the Office of Education stated in a press release.
The winter weather advisory is scheduled to expire at 10 a.m. Friday. The National Weather Service is urging motorists in the mountain areas to exercise caution and slow down during their morning commute.
