
ESCONDIDO, CA – A tragic accident occurred Tuesday afternoon when a vehicle collided with a North County Transit District (NCTD) SPRINTER train, resulting in one fatality, police confirmed.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene at the train tracks located near Mission Road and Enterprise Street shortly after 1:00 p.m. A heavy police presence was observed at the site as first responders worked to assess the situation.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, one person died as a result of the collision. Details regarding the identity of the victim and the possibility of additional injuries have not yet been released.
The incident has significantly impacted NCTD services. An alert on X indicated that the police activity led to the cancellation of the eastbound SPRINTER train scheduled to depart from the Oceanside Transit Center at 2:03 p.m. Riders are advised to expect delays of 30 to 60 minutes for both westbound and eastbound train services throughout the afternoon.
In light of the ongoing disruptions, NCTD has recommended that passengers utilize BREEZE units 2601 and 2226 for shuttle services between the Escondido Transit Center and Nordahl. Additionally, BREEZE route 305 remains available for travelers.
