A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 51-year-old man in Kunkel Park in Lemon Grove last weekend.
Andrew Gomez Cardona was taken into custody Wednesday at a residence in the 900 block of S. Magnolia Avenue in El Cajon, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. He is accused of fatally shooting Anthony Trujillo in the neck on Sunday, June 16th, at approximately 12:35 p.m.
Deputies responding to the scene found Trujillo unresponsive on the ground. Life-saving measures were initiated, and Trujillo was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses reported hearing a disturbance followed by gunshots. “I was woken up by kind of some ruckus,” said Ryleigh Frady, a nearby resident. “I guess there was some physical altercation going on … and then there was two shots that I heard, and then from that point my son and I started looking out the window and there was chaos erupting.”
Detectives previously indicated that Trujillo and the suspect knew each other.
