As San Diego prepares to implement a new parking law on March 1, local residents are expressing mixed feelings about the upcoming changes in a city where parking is already a contentious issue.
Under the new regulation, vehicles parked within 20 feet of a crosswalk – whether it’s marked or not – will be fined $77, a move that has raised eyebrows among many residents who fear it will exacerbate parking difficulties in an already congested urban environment. “With parking being so limited as is, this could make it practically impossible to find a spot,” expressed one concerned San Diegan.
Carlsbad has taken a different approach. Law enforcement in the area announced that officers will continue to issue warnings for parking violations until June 30, providing a temporary reprieve for residents and visitors alike.
As the March 1 deadline approaches, city officials urge residents to familiarize themselves with the new regulations and plan accordingly.
