Lemon Grove Police

Authorities have identified the victim of a deadly shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon at Kunkel Park. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that 51-year-old Anthony Trujillo died from a gunshot wound to the neck, classifying the incident as a homicide.

Initially reported as an assault with a deadly weapon on Sunday, but following an autopsy on Monday the incident was changed to reflect the tragic nature of the events. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Trujillo lying on the ground with significant trauma to his upper body. He was quickly transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and the sheriff’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating. Authorities believe that Trujillo and the suspect may have been acquainted. The sheriff’s office has released a description of the suspect, an adult male seen wearing a light blue sweater and dark jeans, but no further information has been made public.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on the shooting to come forward. Tips can be provided to the Homicide Unit at 858-285-6330 or 858-868-3200 after hours. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
