Trader Joe’s has announced a recall of its Organic Acai Bowls amid concerns that the frozen product may contain plastic, the company revealed late last week. As of February 14, the acai bowls have been removed from store shelves and are currently unavailable for purchase.
A representative from Trader Joe’s stated that customers should either discard any Organic Acai Bowls they may have or return them to their local store for a full refund. “Out of an abundance of caution, please discard any Trader Joe’s Organic Acai Bowls, as the product may contain foreign material (plastic),” the company advised on its website, TraderJoes.com.
The recall applies to all Organic Acai Bowls purchased, regardless of the purchase date or best-by dates. There was no indication from the company regarding when, or if, the bowls will return to stores.
This announcement follows closely on the heels of another recall involving several brands of canned tuna, including products sold at Trader Joe’s. The tuna recall has nothing to do with the actual fish inside the tin, but a manufacturing defect with the pull tab. It’s possible that the defect can lead to leaks or contamination by clostridium botulinum – otherwise known as food poisoning.
Customers with concerns regarding the acai bowl recall are encouraged to reach out to Trader Joe’s customer relations department via phone or email for assistance.
