County officials and community members gathered on Wednesday to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new library branch aimed at meeting the growing needs of the local community. The new facility will be located at 9610 Campo Road in Spring Valley, adjacent to Spring Valley Academy.
The current leased space is about 6,000 square feet, and the new library will double its size to 12,000 square feet, featuring an approximately 2,000 square foot Community Room. In 2022, the existing branch served nearly 30,000 visitors, who checked out over 63,250 items.
The new library is designed to include a range of modern features, such as public computers, laptops for checkout, high-speed internet access, and Wi-Fi throughout the building. It will also have a dedicated Teen area with study rooms, a Children’s area equipped with early literacy play equipment, and a Community Room available for after-hours access for community events. Additionally, there will be a patio space and a Friends of the Library Bookstore, along with a designated parking lot.
The library will be constructed with Zero Net Energy and LEED Gold standards, meaning its solar panels will produce enough electricity to meet its operational needs.
To ensure the library serves the community effectively, the County actively sought input from residents, businesses, and stakeholders during the planning process. This feedback has been instrumental in shaping the design and features of the new branch. County staff will continue to engage with the community as the project progresses.
The project is funded by the County of San Diego and construction is slated to begin in winter 2025, with the library expected to open in spring 2026.
