SeaWorld is set to expand its marine habitat with an exciting new attraction, “Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience,” opening March 15 in San Diego’s Mission Bay. This innovative exhibit celebrates the ancient and enchanting world of jellyfish, which have thrived in the oceans long before dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the fascinating beauty of various Scyphozoa species, including moon jellies, Pacific sea nettles, and upside-down jellyfish. Tyler Carter, SeaWorld San Diego’s park president, expressed enthusiasm in the new venture, stating:
We can’t wait to welcome guests on this extraordinary journey, where they will experience the captivating beauty of jellyfish up close, while learning about the vital role they play in our oceans.
The exhibit features three exciting new galleries, each offering unique experiences:
Realm of Jellies: A Story of Water and Light – Here, guests can engage with interactive habitats, observing the gentle movements of upside-down jellyfish and experiencing a cascading water globe filled with moon jellies.
The Jellyfish Passage – This breathtaking 10-foot-tall living archway adorned with moon jellies sets the stage for an ethereal atmosphere, featuring a towering 14-foot aquarium, one of the tallest in the United States.
Medusa Gallery– An immersive 360-degree experience awaits. With vibrant LED visuals, this gallery plunges guests into a world of bioluminescence and the captivating kaleidoscope of jellyfish life. Visitors can view various life stages of moon jellies through panoramic windows, along with species like comb jellies and sea nettles.
For those looking for an even deeper dive into the world of jellyfish, SeaWorld offers a special Jellyfish Propagation Program. For an additional $49.99, guests can undertake a walking tour led by an expert who will provide insight into the care and propagation of jellyfish, while explaining into their life cycle and biology.
“Jewels of the Sea” promises to be an unforgettable adventure for guests of all ages, combining education with the mesmerizing spectacle of jellyfish. Make sure to visit SeaWorld San Diego to experience this unique addition to their marine family.
