This initiative comes as a satirical counter to President Donald Trump’s expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory.
The campaign, dubbed “Denmarkification,” has garnered nearly 200,000 signatures. Organizers suggest that for a sum of $1 trillion, Denmark could acquire California, bringing Danish values and culture to the Golden State. Proposed changes include renaming Disneyland to “Hans Christian Andersenland,” introducing bike lanes to Beverly Hills, and bringing “hygge” to Hollywood.
The campaign’s website quips, “Let’s be honest: Trump isn’t exactly California’s biggest fan. He’s called it the most ruined state in the Union and has had disputes with its leaders for years. We’re sure he’d be willing to part with it for the right price.”
