The Pentagon has authorized the deployment of approximately 1,500 additional active-duty soldiers to the U.S.-Mexico border, increasing the total number of troops stationed there to about 3,600. This move is part of President Donald Trump’s intensified immigration enforcement efforts.
The newly deployed troops will primarily assist with logistical support, including the installation of concertina wire barriers, transportation services, and intelligence operations to aid the Border Patrol. This deployment reflects the administration’s commitment to bolstering border security and addressing immigration challenges.
In a related development, Mexico has begun deploying the first of 10,000 National Guard troops to its northern border following tariff threats by President Trump. These troops have been observed along the Ciudad Juárez-El Paso frontier, as part of an agreement to delay tariffs in exchange for national efforts to curb fentanyl smuggling.
