Released on Friday, recent data from the Regional Task Force on Homelessness reveals that more people exited homelessness in San Diego County than the amount of people who became homeless last month.
According to new research, 950 people were placed in housing in November, while 894 people were placed into the system for the first time. This data is a reversal of trends in the region that have been growing steadily since March 2022.
Local leaders are optimistic that that their efforts to stave off the unhoused crisis are beginning to work. Regional Task Force on Homelessness CEO Tamara Kohler said in a statement:
The demand is still there, that hasn’t changed. But we are housing more people and that’s encouraging for a lot of reasons but mostly because we know housing solves homelessness. We obviously want to see these trend lines continue in 2025, but I’ll say this again: we need more housing across the board, and we need a dedicated funding source to help our most vulnerable friends, neighbors, seniors, veterans, and families.
